the inspiration for these salt dough personalized gift tags came from these stamped cookies.
first i made this standard salt dough recipe. little miss s made her own salt dough ornaments too. we spent a solid 3 hours doing this one rainy afternoon recently. i roll my dough out onto parchment paper, that way when it is time to put the cutouts in the oven the shapes don't get distorted from transferring them from the rolling surface to the cookie sheet. mamas, if you do something like this with your kiddos, let them make their own. don't get mad at them if they don't do it your way or if their idea of perfect isn't the same as yours. this is often how i'm able to work on projects during the day. i let little miss s make her own version of what i'm doing. it buys me time to work on stuff i want to work on with her, but separately at the same time.
now here's where the personalization comes in. i gathered all my stamps.
*****this is an important step*****
i put my stamp in flour and tapped off any excess flour and then stamped my dough cutouts.
once you have all your cutouts stamped, pop them in the oven until cooked and attach them to your packages. they can work as ornaments or personalized gift tags.

LOVE making salt dough ornaments! Such a great idea to stamp them. Totally doing this!!!! And I love your vintage wrapping paper. You craftee girl you;)
ReplyDeleteI know! I do too! Last year I made a bunch of plain salt dough ornaments for a play date and let the kids paint them and decorate them with puff balls and glitter and whatever else I had laying around. It so fun for the kids and easy for the moms. This stamping was kind of an experiment gone right! You should definitely try!
ReplyDeleteThese are too cute! So creative and easy. Love your vintage wrapping paper too.

u just saved the day for tomorrow...i can't wait to weed thru my stamps. remember where i got them all? i want to try the food coloring in the dough but i'm a little nervous...would i add it after i knead it?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see how you all spin this if you do decide to make gift tags or some other stamping version of the salt dough ornaments! Will you email me pics? Also, I should mention I bumped up my oven temp to 300. The recipes says 250, but that was taking too long. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteADORABLE...especially the little helper.
ReplyDeleteI love these...I especially love seeing Sutton hard at work on hers! Very cool photos too!
