the other day we got "booed" or "ghosted". it happens every year. it is so much fun for the kiddos and kicks off the holiday season. my neighborhood has little festivities throughout the year, but during the holidays things get kicked up a notch. the grown ups have as much fun as the kids.
we came home to a little ghost taped to our door with a bag of homemade goodies, pumpkin carving kit, and little treats to celebrate the season. it is so fun to watch the ghost population grow in our neighborhood as we get closer to halloween. included in our bag of goodies are the instructions above. my daughter loves ghosting people. we get our goody bags together and make the ghosts, but her favorite part is going up to our neighbors front doors at night, taping the ghost on the door, ringing the doorbell and running away as quickly as possible so we don't get caught.
after living in our neighborhood for four halloweens now, i buy stuff on clearance and keep it for the next year. i can get really cool stuff from crate and barrel, paper source, target, etc. and usually for super cheap. i bought these bags at the crate and barrel outlet. i filled them with...
silly eyes and...
spider rings.
i include fun entertaining stuff for the mommies too, paper straws and festive napkins.
i had to make something homemade too. this year i made a loaf of "boo" bread.
i try not to include candy if i can help it. i might include one piece of candy per child, but these pretzels are a fun, healthier option.
books are good too. there are some great inexpensive paper back books to celebrate the season.
tonight we are ghosting our first family! i hope we don't get caught! do you have any fun halloween traditions?

Amber,
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute...My friend from St. Louis told me about this, but no one did it when my kids were little. What a great neighborhood you live in. I love all your goodies and that book, The Little old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything was one of our all time favorite fall books. The recipient of your BOO is really lucky!!

Annie it was a comedy of errors tonight! First, the house we were planning on ghosting had already been ghosted. Then, as we pulled up to the next house the family was coming out. I drive the getaway car while my husband and daughter actually do the deed, and she came away running and crying because she wanted to tape the ghost on the door, which my husband did not know, so he taped it to the door! Better luck tomorrow night for our next ghosting I guess!
ReplyDeleteThings like this only happen in neighborhoods, I think, where there are tons of kids. It sounds like so much fun. I know my kids would love doing it! Maybe we'll try to "ghost" our neighbors across the street and see how it goes :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. We did this at my old work and it was so much fun! I'll have to resurrect the idea in my new office.
ReplyDeleteI think you all can do this, in a neighborhood with tons of kids or not! How fun would it be to get a bottle of wine and a fun treat from one of your neighbors! The fun isn't just for the kiddos!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! Send some of that spirit over to my hood!
